It felt like he had been there forever, and that he would be eternal. Pierre Labat, known as “Pierrot”, died on Sunday at the age of 88. And it is an emblematic figure of the Girondins de Bordeaux who has left.
“Educator, training center assistant, goalkeeper coach, professional observer, then assistant coach… he marked the history of the Girondins with his passion and dedication”wrote the Aquitaine club on Sunday on its social networks.
Zidane pays tribute to him
“Pierrot” Labat notably left his mark on the young talents who passed through Bordeaux. We can thus think of Zinedine Zidane, Bixente Lizarazu and Christophe Dugarry, the golden generation of the 1990s. More recently, we will cite the names of Jules Koundé or Aurélien Tchouaméni.
On the Labat site, Zidane pays a superb tribute to these educators. “The Girondins were an extraordinary springboard, particularly thanks to meeting Pierrot. I was already a teenager at an advanced age unlike Liza and Duga who knew him when they were young, says “Zizou”. When we were in doubt, Pierrot knew how to talk to us. He acted as a buffer and cheered us up. »
“Before coming to Bordeaux, continues Zidane,
technique was my primary quality, it’s true. I was comfortable in this area, but reviewing the scales comforted me and helped me improve. I owe it to Pierrot. »
