Unlike the start of his mandate at OM during last season, Jean-Louis Gasset did not have the desired effect with Montpellier.

This defeat risks causing significant damage. Saturday evening, the Montpellier players further worsened their situation by falling, 4-0, on the ground of Puy, a National 2 team, during the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France.

This elimination gave coach Jean-Louis Gasset, interviewed after the match, a “ feeling of shamecited by The Team. We were swept away. We lost all the duels, missed the first two opportunities which could have changed the match. But mentally, it’s very worrying. »

Gasset had assured that he would stop

The experienced southern coach did not experience the same success in Montpellier when he sat at the Olympique de Marseille bedside last season. Gasset began his Olympian mandate with five consecutive victories, between February 22 and March 10, 2024, in all competitions, before… five defeats in a row.

Since his arrival on the bench of La Paillade, the 71-year-old coach has managed Téji Savanier and his teammates seven times in Ligue 1, for a record of one victory, five defeats and one draw. The Montpellier team occupies last place in the standings with nine points after 15 days.

On May 19, after Le Havre-OM (1-2), 34th day of the 2023-2024 Championship, Jean-Louis Gasset assured at a press conference that this was his final match as coach.
