While Manchester City is going through a delicate period, an influential voice close to PSG expressed this Tuesday a wish that many Parisian supporters dream of: to see Pep Guardiola take control of the capital club. However, the Catalan coach recently affirmed that he would not coach any other club after Manchester City, where he recently extended his contract.
The declaration, which echoes PSG’s recurring desires for greatness, raises a debate: would it be possible to convince Guardiola to change his mind if things were to get worse at the Skyblues? “Firing Guardiola, even during a bad period, is difficult. I have so much respect for what he brings to football that I have a hard time telling myself that it will happen”declared Jérôme Rothen in his show on RMC Sport, before adding: “He’s still a guy who gave so much to City. And what’s more, he recently extended it.”
Guardiola, the PSG temptation
Jérôme Rothen does not hide his dream: “My dream is to see Guardiola on the bench one day for PSG. Even tired, many clubs have to kneel if tomorrow he is free.” THowever, the former PSG player remains lucid about the current situation. “He said he wouldn’t sign for any other club behind City? Yes, I know it’s complicated.”
If Guardiola were to leave Manchester City, his availability would create a tidal wave in the coaching market. PSG, often criticized for its frequent changes of coach, could then try its luck to attract one of the greatest tacticians in history. Provided of course that Luis Enrique is no longer stationed at the Parc des Princes.
