The city of Doha in Qatar hosted the FIFA-The Best trophy ceremony this Tuesday evening. Several prizes are therefore awarded during this beautiful evening where players are highlighted for their achievements last season, over the period from August 21, 2023 to August 10, 2024 inclusive. In the FIFA men’s best goal category, the nominees were: Hassan Al Haydos (Qatar), Terry Antonis (Melbourne City), Yassine Benzia (Algeria), Walter Bou (Lanus), Michaell Chirinos (Honduras), Federico Dimarco (Inter Milan), Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United), Mohammed Kudus (West Ham), Denis Omedi (Kitara), Paul Onuachu (Trabzonspor) and Jaden Philogene (Hull City).
If all these achievements are real gems, there is only one that was able to win the prize. It was the work of Alejandro Garnacho against Everton on November 26, 2023 during a Premier League match which was rewarded. On a cross from Diogo Dalot, the young Argentinian’s acrobatic return found Jordan Pickford’s top corner. He had just missed the pre-list of goals of the year for a few days but everyone had thought of the Puskas Prize that very evening. The Manchester United player has indeed been rewarded.
