Antoine Griezmann, the surprising decision

Antoine Griezmann has decided. Like all former winners of the trophy, the Mâconnais was invited by France Football to vote for the title of French player of the 2023-2024 season.

Awarded in 2016, the year of his fantastic Euro, Griezmann gave three names among the 15 proposed by the weekly. And if he placed in second position a certain Kylian Mbappé (elected French player of the season for the fourth time), the Atlético de Madrid player was original for his two other choices.

Griezmann votes… Del Castillo!

In first position, Griezmann opted for Alexandre Lacazette. He is the only one to have voted for the captain of Olympique Lyonnais, with Bernard Lama. Beyond his great club season with Les Gones (19 goals in Ligue 1), Lacazette was undoubtedly rewarded for his role as captain of the French Olympic team, silver medalist at the Paris Games this summer.

To complete his trio, Antoine Griezmann chose a player from Stade Brestois. Not Pierre Lees-Melou (6th in the vote), but striker Romain Del Castillo, to whom he is the only one to have given a vote. Note that, like Lacazette, Del Castillo was trained in Lyon. A native of Mâcon, Griezmann never hid the fact that he had a slight fondness for OL when he was little.
