A former Real Madrid player thinks Kylian Mbappé must impose his leadership and take charge of the penalties.

Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Santiago Canizares believes Kylian Mbappe should be the team’s designated penalty taker.

For the moment, the French international shares this task with two other players, namely Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr. For Canizares, Mbappe must take this responsibility alone given his status within the team.

“Mbappé must accept risky situations”

He said in an interview with Radio Marca: “Penalties are very complicated because they are very objective. You say: ‘I don’t feel well enough to pull them, I don’t have the confidence, let someone else pull them and the problems will be fixed’ or ‘I missed the other day, if I ‘misses another one, I will punish myself for not being worth it because I have a good match’ because for me he had a good match, even if he missed the finish on some occasions and that’ is an exercise in responsibility.”

“But what Guti says is also true, if I want to lead a team and be a leader, I have to accept risky situations and in some of them I will get gored. I think at that point he wanted to get rid of that problem. He transferred the problem to another player. That doesn’t worry me too much, he’s still a player who has just arrived.” added Canizares.

Finally, Casillas’ former understudy said he was surprised that Mbappé was so divisive when he has only been in Madrid for a few months: “The fact is that we are already in the trenches between those who say Mbappé is a superior being and those who say he is worthless. There are a lot of doubts, the player is more than he shows. The good thing is that you see his attitude and his energy.”
