Donnarumma-Safonov, “grotesque” management

At PSG, alternating the goalkeeper position has never really worked. However, Luis Enrique reproduces this hazardous pattern.

Since Paris Saint-Germain was taken over by QSi in 2011, there has often been competition at the goalkeeper position. Most of the time, without much success. By establishing Matvey Safonov for the Champions League match against Bayern Munich, Luis Enrique maintains a model which has never borne fruit with the Rouge et Bleu.

Gianluigi Donnarumma today finds himself in the situation that Keylor Navas found himself in when he arrived in 2021. “You had Keylor Navas, referenced, three Champions Leagues under his belt, international, good locker room guy, good goalkeeper, no story, correct footwork, recalls Jérôme Alonzo in the columns of So Foot. PSG is a company that generates millions, even billions of euros, how can you repeat the same mistakes over and over again and say ‘Yeah, that’s cool.’ The management of goalkeepers under QSi is grotesque. »

Donnarumma-Safonov, competition too risky

And the former goalkeeper of the capital club continued:
“At PSG, we are geniuses in the position, you take Donnarumma while you have Navas! So there, you lose both. And then after a season where he is rather good in the championship, you are going to look for Safonov this summer! It’s November 27, 2024, you have lost your two guardians for the fifth time in ten years.”

Saturday, at 9 p.m., PSG will host FC Nantes at the Parc des Princes, on the thirteenth day of Ligue 1. Will Donnarumma find his place in the goals? With Luis Enrique, anything is possible.
