PSG: Luis Enrique’s big criticism of Gianluigi Donnarumma

In the past, the goalkeeper issue has often been sensitive at Paris Saint-Germain. Indeed, the residents of the Parc des Princes had to manage the cohabitation between Salvatore Sirigu and Kévin Trapp. The latter was then jostled by Alphonse Aréola. Then, the Frenchman had to deal with competition from Gianluigi Buffon. Then, it was Keylor Navas who occupied the number 1 position before the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma. Since then, coaches have come and gone but the Italian goalkeeper has remained in place.

But this weekend, The Team revealed that Luis Enrique would not be against shaking up his hierarchy of goalkeepers, while Matvey Safonov a priori acted as understudy and that Arnau Tenas was rather in third position. Moreover, he preferred to use the Russian on Saturday against Racing Club de Lens. The goalkeeper recruited during the last summer transfer window produced a rather interesting copy. At a press conference, Lucho explained his choice: “I knew that we would have a lot of difficulties because of Lens’ pressure, very high pressure, very strong duels where the only free player is the goalkeeper.”

Lucho annoyed by “Gigio”

He then added: “I have a total obsession with having all players ready to play at all times. Safonov, Tenas, Donnarumma must be ready at all times. If I want this to be the case for the goalkeepers, I also want it to be the case for all the other players. Today, Safonov has generated a certain superiority for us. He was very good and it wasn’t easy for him. I am very happy with his performance.” And that could give him ideas against Atlético de Madrid in the Champions League tomorrow evening. The Teamwho plays the game of comparisons between “Gigio” and Safonov, explains that there are still doubts regarding the identity of the goalkeeper who will start tomorrow evening.

Especially since the PSG coach has things to reproach Donnarumma, particularly in relation to his kicking and the verticality of his game. Points which were discussed internally and where the Russian gives better guarantees than the formerly of AC Milan. The sports daily adds that Lucho has “a form of irritation at Donnarumma’s inability to respond to his instructions on this aspect.” His difficulties in aerial play are also pointed out. It remains to be seen whether the impressions left by Safonov will lead to the downgrading of “Gigio” against Atlético tomorrow evening in C1. Especially since The Team adds that Tenas, who has not yet played, is still on the staff’s radar and that he will have his chance at one point or another.
