Lyon inflicts a Scottish shower on Rangers

Olympique Lyonnais won against Glasgow Rangers this Thursday for the second day of the Europa League (4-1).

It is in the Europa League that the Lyonnais started to recover, a week ago, four days after a painful slap in an incredible and electric Olympico against Marseille (2-3). After taming Olympiakos Piraeus in Décines (2-0), Pierre Sage’s men came up against Rangers in Glasgow, in the grandiose atmosphere that goes with it.

The whole challenge, for OL, was to ignore the magic of Ibrox Stadium to recite their lines and avoid the trap set by this Scottish team. A challenge that the Lyonnais were able to meet thanks to a very coherent score.

A perfect scenario for OL

We didn’t have to wait long to see the Lyonnais take the lead in this ping-pong match with typically British charm. Very restless, Fofana broke the deadlock after good work from Cherki in the 10th minute (0-1, 10th). The Scots equalized through Lawrence after a small error of judgment from Perri (1-1, 14th), but OL returned to second straight away thanks to their offensive leader.

Helpless during the last meetings, Alexandre Lacazette may have had his match. OL’s regular scorer scored a double in two stages, three movements, on a well-assured flat shot (1-2, 19th), then on a superb strike into the top corner before the break (1-3 , 45th+1).

After the break, Lyon added even more to the bill thanks to the inevitable Fofana, another great man of the evening, well served by a Cherki also very prominent (1-4, 55th). Lyon’s intensity decreased as the minutes ticked by, but OL closed the floodgates, despite the end of the match favoring the Rangers. Lyon capitalizes thanks to its strong men of the moment.
