Lyon suffered a heavy defeat in Rennes this Sunday at the end of the first day of Ligue 1 (3-0).

What a slap in the face! Determined to start the championship with a bang to spare themselves the torments of last season, the Lyonnais sank at Roazhon Park this Sunday, during the last match of the inaugural round of Ligue 1. Beaten 3-0 by an insolently enthusiastic Rennes team, the Gones already have some accounts to render.

Very quickly in this game, the Bretons took the lead, not without a double wink from fate since Bourigeaud, on his way to Qatar, found the fault on a free kick with the help of a former member of the red and black house – a Matic who was booed throughout the match for having joined the Rhone ranks last winter (1-0, 19e).

Mikautadze misses the boat

In the process, a defensive error by Niakhaté – poached at a high price by Lyon this summer – allowed the locals to break away, through a lively Gouiri (2-0, 21e). A perfect scenario for Rennes who at the very end of the match took a mischievous pleasure in making the score worse thanks to one of their attacking recruits – the young Dane Meister – in order to drive the nail in the coffin (3-0, 90e+1).

For OL, the defeat is all the more bitter as Mikautadze missed a golden opportunity to reduce the gap in the second half – on a penalty saved by Mandanda (71e). Here are Pierre Sage’s men already condemned to react, next week against Monaco. Stade Rennais invites itself among the cylinders which started this championship strongly: OM, winner 1-5 in Brest Saturday, and PSG, defeating Le Havre 1-4 Friday evening.
