Kylian Mbappe will become majority owner of a professional football club at the age of 25 after reaching an agreement with Caen.

Le Parisien reports that Kylian Mbappé will pay just under €20 million to buy the majority of Caen’s shares. Pierre-Antin Capton will hold the remainder of the shares, worth €5 million.

The Bondy player has become Real Madrid’s highest-paid player, with a net salary of €15 million. This is a significant reduction from his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, but a signing bonus worth more than €100 million over the life of his contract should make up for this loss. As of early 2024, Forbes valued his various endorsement deals at $20 million, making him extraordinarily wealthy.

A pharaonic agreement

Mbappe almost signed for Caen as a youngster, as the club saw potential in him as a future star and the family felt it was a safe and healthy environment for the youngster. But the deal fell through when Caen were relegated.

In the short term, Kylian Mbappe will be eager to make his Real Madrid debut, which is likely to come in the UEFA Super Cup next month. But now he will want to make an impact behind the scenes at Caen, a team that has typically been yo-yoing and has been in Ligue 2 since 2019. In the future, he could even play for his own club, as Didier Drogba did in 2017 with USL side Phoenix Rising.
