The Bayern Munich board are convinced that Thomas Tuchel turned down their offer to stay at the club because he already had a deal elsewhere.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is set to be fired after Saturday’s FA Cup final, whatever the result, and the Red Devils appear to be working to find a replacement. Tuchel could well be their man.
As early as February, Bayern decided to part ways with Tuchel at the end of the season. However, after searching in vain for a manager, from Xabi Alonso to Ralf Rangnick to Julian Nagelsmann, the Bayern board tried to persuade Tuchel to stay at the club. Once again, Bayern fell short and Tuchel refused their offer. The Munich club believe that the reason for this refusal is that he had already decided to become United’s manager.
Return to the Premier League for Tuchel?
Bayern’s search for a new coach appears to be almost over. The Bavarian giants are set to appoint Vincent Kompany as Tuchel’s successor at the Allianz Arena. The Belgian was relegated with Burnley after finishing in 19th place in the Premier League with 24 points.
If Tuchel becomes United manager, he will watch his future side face Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday. Ten Hag will oversee what will likely be his final match in charge of the Red Devils and will dream of ending his mixed spell at the club by winning a second trophy.
