Daniel Riolo questioned the integration of certain players into the France team.

Bradley Barcola, who arrived at Paris Saint-Germain last summer from Olympique Lyonnais, quickly came under criticism from Daniel Riolo. Last November, the latter called him a “lamb”. A scathing sting which made the former Gone react, author of an express acclimatization within the capital club.

“Honestly it can make you grow, the young will-o’-the-wisp recently confided in an interview with France 3. When someone comes across you like that, it pushes you to give your all, to show that you’re not a lamb (laughs). You have to show that you are better than that, that you are a good player and that you know what you are doing. In those moments when they wanted to bury me, I always continued to believe in myself. »

“I think we’re going too fast”

Barcola’s response greatly pleased the RMC consultant. “What Barcola says today is that his pride was shaken when he heard that, when I said the lamb… (…) The guy responds. I find that it is much more constructive in a debate on football to do that than to be on a set and waxing the pumps all the time. We will never be shoe shiners. We can have an opinion, we can sometimes be wrong, rarely in fact”estimated Riolo.

Barcola, who is coming off a successful first season at PSG with 5 goals and 9 assists, was rewarded with a call-up to the French team to play in the Euro in Germany this summer. A decision by Didier Deschamps, which Riolo has difficulty understanding. “If we didn’t take Terrier (before his injury with Rennes in January 2023, editor’s note), I don’t understand how with a handful of matches we integrate the France team. OK in 1986, Jean-Pierre Papin joined the French team but after a full season and a lot of goals. Times have changed and I think we are moving too quickly”judged the polemicist.
