Xavi’s days as FC Barcelona coach are numbered, Blaugrana sporting director Deco met with Hansi Flick. The German technician is close to arriving in Catalonia!

FC Barcelona’s very average season (2nd in La Liga, quarter-finals of the Champions League and Copa del Rey) will end with a bang. Xavi, who announced his departure at the end of the exercise in January, finally decided to stay at the request of President Joan Laporta. Except that the other leaders of the Blaugranas, starting with Deco, the sports director, are determined to change coaches during the offseason.

Deco and Bojan Krkic Pérez, now FCB sports coordinator, traveled to London to meet Hansi Flick and super-agent Pini Zahavi. According to Sport, the two Barcelona decision-makers declared their interest in the German technician, but wanted to be sure of the coach’s intentions in terms of playing style. Flick is extremely motivated by the idea of managing Barça, as indicated Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Hansi Flick already winner of the Champions

The former Germany coach, who arrived last September, has dreamed of managing Barça for several months. With the planned departure of Xavi, Laporta then decided to entrust the reins of his team to a quality German coach, if possible already a winner of the Champions League. Flick was then surveyed, he who won the C1 with Bayern in 2020, even achieving a historic sextuplet (counting the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup).

Note that Bojan Krkic Pérez is therefore assisting Deco in this choice of the new coach. The former Masia prodigy, only 33 years old, became FCB sports coordinator last September, following his retirement from sports (after a stint in Japan, at Vissel Kobe). He was responsible for supporting young players from the training center towards the professional level, in the B team (Barça Atlétic) and in the first team.
