Deschamps, the trend is not good

A month and a half before Euro 2024, Didier Deschamps sees one of his starters in central defense, Dayot Upamecano, languishing on the Bayern Munich bench. The former Leipzig player has really fallen down the hierarchy of Thomas Tuchel’s central players.

Didier Deschamps will closely follow the semi-final first leg of the Champions League next week. He should not see Dayot Upamecano start for Bayern against Real Madrid next Tuesday in Munich… The 25-year-old central defender has completely lost his place in Thomas Tuchel’s starting lineup. He paid dearly for his exclusions during the defeats against Lazio then Bochum, in the space of four days, in mid-February.

Since then, Upamecano has been fourth in the central hierarchy. Matthijs de Ligt and Eric Dier started both quarter-final matches against Arsenal. Kim Min-Jae also lost his place, ahead of the Englishman who arrived during the winter transfer window, but started against Union Berlin last weekend in the Bundesliga. Upamecano came on for the last half hour of play and could have his chance against Frankfurt on Saturday, just before the UCL. This is little.

Upamecano pushed out?

The bad news does not stop there for “Upa”. FCB would be interested in Jonathan Tah and could make an XXL offer to Leverkusen for the German international central defender. The 28-year-old obviously has a release clause set at 25 million euros for foreign clubs. In the event of Tah’s recruitment, Dayot Upamecano will be the first on the transfer list, as indicated by Christian Falk of Bild.

In the French team, Dayot Upamecano, associated with Ibrahima Konaté after the retirement of Raphaël Varane, retains the confidence of his coach. He started with Benjamin Pavard in the center but it was during the football lesson he received against Germany (0-2), on February 23 at Parc OL. Konaté, who was returning from injury, then played with William Saliba against Chile. If the Arsenal Gunner is breathtaking in the Premier League, he has not yet shone with the Blues. The puzzle for “La Dèche”…
