Arda Güler’s first season ends slowly with disappointment. His arrival had fueled very high hopes, both at Real Madrid and among the young Turk (19 years old) but injuries and then competition in an already very advanced season got the better of him for the moment. Even when he is back in shape, the attacking midfielder has to make do with crumbs (7 matches in all competitions, or 98 minutes, for 1 goal) left by Carlo Ancelotti. The former Fenerbahçe, recruited for €20 million, is starting to get impatient as a departure on loan next season begins to make headway.

He also spent time with Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, Mesut Özil (35) knows Güler well having worked with him within his former Istanbul team. In an interview with Marcathe former German playmaker of Turkish origin told him to take refuge in work. “He was like my little brother when we both played for Fenerbahçe. Everyone knows his talent, so I don’t want to praise him too much and put more pressure on him. His situation is not very easy to manage, especially when all the hopes of a country as fascinating as Turkey rest on him. He must be patient. His time will surely come. He is still very young. You can learn a lot in every training session and he has world-class players in front of him. Patience.”
