FC Metz overthrew RC Lens on Friday evening, thanks to a double from Georges Mikautaze (2-1, 29th). A crucial result in the race to maintain.

We couldn't miss the first period this Friday evening at the Saint-Symphorien stadium. Over the course of forty-five exciting minutes, FC Metz and Racing Club de Lens offered a very indecisive first part of the match scenario, punctuated by three goals. The only ones in the game. Trailing, the Garnets benefited from two goals from Georges Mikautadze to win (2-1). Thanks to this success, Metz can continue to believe in maintaining.

However, things started badly for the locals since the opening score was for the Lensois, on a penalty converted by Florian Sotoca after a foul by Alexandre Oukidja on Wesley Saïd (0-1, 13th). Jostled, the Garnets then saw their joker take care of (almost) everything. On a header from Arthur Atta, Georges Mikautadze followed up with a check, then a left shot into the top corner (1-1, 34th). A fantastic gesture greeted by a tremendous roar from Saint-Symphorien.

Lens can't do it anymore

But that wasn't all for the player on loan from Ajax since just before the break, he did it again by giving his team the advantage at the best of times (2-1, 45th+2). While the Messins returned to the locker room in euphoria, the Lensois returned with their heads down. Remobilized by Franck Haise, the visitors then largely dominated the second half, but despite their 72% possession and their ten shots (but none on target), the Sang et Or never came back to the level.

This success is therefore a great encouragement for FC Metz which remains seventeenth, but temporarily returns to two points behind Nantes (15th), last non-relegation. For Lens, the complicated end of the season continues and the fear of missing out on Europe next season is growing. Brice Samba's partners here have a fourth match in a row without success in Ligue 1 (three defeats and a draw) and are now within reach of Stade de Reims which travels to Strasbourg this Saturday.
