It was one of the most anticipated matches of this 26th day of Ligue 1. This Sunday evening, Stade Rennais dominated Olympique de Marseille at Roazhon Park with a score of 2 goals to 0.

A success which allows Rennes to do well in the rankings. Julian Stéphan’s men, eighth in Ligue 1, are back on equal points with their evening opponent (39 points on the clock). SRFC bounced back at the best of times after 3 matches without a victory in the league.

On the other hand, it’s a setback for Olympique de Marseille and a fairly mixed week with consecutive defeats in all competitions. The Olympians are stopped in their tracks in Ligue 1, they who remained on 3 victories in a row.

A Stade Rennais for great evenings

Stade Rennais very quickly grasped the importance of this meeting. Steve Mandanda’s partners knew they had to pull off a coup this Sunday in front of their supporters against OM. Very quickly, the SRFC announced the color to its opponent, both in the duels and in the game.

From the 21st minute, the Rouge et Noir will hit the mark. Martin Terrier plays the Olympian defense in the left lane before serving Amine Gouiri on the edge of the area. The number 10 finds his teammate in the area who is not going to procrastinate and send his sequence with his right foot into the cage of Pau Lopez (1-0.21st).

Despite good intentions, situations and determination, Jean-Louis Gasset’s players come up against a Breton team that performs well in all areas of the game and gives nothing.

Returning from the locker room, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s teammates tried to come back to the score in vain. A lack of physical freshness? A lack of inspiration? Maybe it’s possible. But today’s opponent was having a good day.

At the end of the match, Rennes hit the nail on the head. Adrien Truffert falls in the area following contact with Meïté. As is often the case, it is Benjamin Bourigeaud who takes his responsibilities and goes to deceive Lopez with a flat right foot which goes into the small net and which wrong-foots the Marseille goalkeeper.

Rennes did well on this day and is relaunching at the end of the season. Europe is still possible!
