Former Barcelona player Gerard Pique believes Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola could return to the club in the future.

The former Spain international cited Guardiola and Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta as the two most serious candidates to lead FC Barcelona following Xavi’s departure. Pique also said he believes Guardiola could return to the Catalan club when his contract with Manchester City ends in 2025, as he believes fans would like to see the legendary coach return to the Camp Nou.

Speaking to the Times, Pique said: “To manage Barca you have to be a specific type of coach and understand the way Barca play, so the options are much fewer. The most obvious options are (Pep) Guardiola, because he had a past here and is the best manager at the moment, and (Mikel) Arteta from Arsenal. He would also be a good coach. He understands Barcelona and has played for Barça in the past.”

The Catalans have enjoyed unprecedented success during the tenure of the current Cityzens manager. Between 2008 and 2012, they won 14 trophies, including three La Liga and two Champions Leagues. They also won the treble in the 2009/20 season.
