After Conforama and Uber Eats, a new brand will become the naming partner of Ligue 1.

A new brand will associate its name with Ligue 1. It was the journalist Daniel Riolo who announced it Monday evening on RMC, in the show l’After Foot. While Uber Eats had won the naming contract for the French championship in 2020, succeeding Conforama, the Professional Football League (LFP) decided to turn the page for a more lucrative sponsor. A sponsor who will not be unanimously appreciated by sports fans and nutritionists…

“Uber Eats was the partner of Ligue 1 for 15 to 16 million euros per year. They didn’t want to continue at that pricerevealed the editorialist. So they said to themselves: ‘We’re going to give a lot less’, especially since there weren’t many people in the running to become the naming partner (…) And there, a file was placed on the desk by Vincent Labrune (the president of the LFP, editor’s note). He will reap the fruits of it, but he did nothing about it, since it came from the very top. »

A new sponsor worth €60 million

And to add: “The file that arrived on his desk, with a tidy sum, was the McDo (McDonald’s) file. They don’t really want it to be known. They haven’t yet planned the PR for junk food and everything, they’re working on it. » According to Daniel Riolo, it is “through a media and government relations agency” that this partnership with the famous fast food company reached Vincent Labrune.

“The file came from the tophe said. Because it’s the government that will actually save Ligue 1. The Ministry of Finance has obviously promised some compensation to this sponsor so that it becomes associated with Ligue 1. This will be around 60 million euros over a period of three years, it is a clear increase compared to what gave Uber Eats. It’s still a lot of money. » It remains to be seen how the LFP will announce the launch of this Ligue 1 McDonald’s…
