Stade Rennais won against Le Puy to qualify for the semi-finals of the Coupe de France this Thursday (3-1).

The step was very high. It looked like a small mountain for Le Puy. A real sensation of this edition of the Coupe de France, the National 2 team challenged Stade Rennais to try to continue their epic. The carrot was superb: a ticket for the semi-finals of the oldest competition.

For their part, Julien Stéphan’s men were doing the splits in the run-up to this meeting, four days after an XXL performance to secure a promising draw at the Parc des Princes against Paris Saint-Germain (1-1). With a superb series on the domestic scene in 2024, Rennes therefore approached this meeting with a costume of great favorite, especially since the Bretons had maintained their standing in the previous round by showering FC Sochaux in Bonal (6- 1).

Rennes did not tremble

Once again, the Rennes enforced the hierarchy by delivering a very serious performance. Against a valiant opponent determined to close the spaces, Rennes forced the lock quickly to spend a relatively quiet evening. Theate broke the deadlock in the 9th minute of play (0-1, 9th).

A goal which allowed Stéphan’s men to progress afterwards. Bourigeaud doubled the lead by converting a penalty (0-2, 48th), before adding to the score at the end of the match (1-3, 82nd). In the meantime, the locals had regained hope thanks to a goal from Adinany on the hour mark (1-2, 62nd), but the matter was already over. Mission accomplished for Rennes. Le Puy leaves with honors and heads full of memories.
