Good news for Everton. Penalized for having violated the rules of profitability and sustainability of the Premier League, the English club received a withdrawal of ten points. A heavy sanction for the Toffees, currently on the verge of relegation to 17th place in the standings, with only one point ahead of the red zone. But today, the Premier League has just announced that the sanction targeting the Mersey club has been reduced.

“An independent appeal panel has concluded that the sanction for Everton FC’s breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (RPS), for the period ending in the 2021/22 season, will be an immediate deduction of six points. The decision follows the club’s appeal against an independent commission’s decision in November 2023 to impose a 10-point deduction for the club’s breach of PSR. The appeal was heard over three days earlier this month, by an appeal panel comprising Sir Gary Hickinbottom (chairman), Daniel Alexander KC and Katherine Apps KC. Everton FC appealed the sanction imposed on it on nine grounds, each of which related to the sanction rather than the fact of the violation, which the club admitted. Two of these nine grounds were upheld by the appeals committee, which replaced the initial deduction of 10 points with six. This revised sanction takes effect immediately and the Premier League table will be updated today to reflect it., we can read on the official website of the Premier League. Everton would therefore recover four points and should climb to 15th place, tied with Brentford.
