OM will have to do without its faithful. In less than ten days, the Marseillais will travel to Istanbul to face Besiktas, on the first day of the league phase of the Europa League. A trip which will take place without their supporters.
According to HERE ProvenceMarseille fans are in fact banned from traveling to Türkiye for this meeting, after a sanction pronounced by UEFA. This decision follows the use of fireworks during OM’s trip to Bruges last January in the Champions League.
An absence that comes at a bad time
An absence that comes at a bad time for the Olympians, while the meeting against Besiktas promises to be particularly heated. In a venue renowned for its atmosphere, OM will have to cope without the support of its supporters. An additional handicap for Bruno Genesio’s men, who hope to take advantage of their entry into the Europa League to revive a dynamic that is very poorly off in the championship.
Because OM are having a complicated start to the season in Ligue 1. After an inaugural victory against Monaco, the Marseillais have just suffered two defeats, the last of which at the Vélodrome against Paris FC (2-3). The Europa League therefore comes at the right time to try to turn the page. But for their entry into the running, the Olympians will have to do so far from their faithful.
