Djamel Belmadi informed the Algerian federation of his final choice concerning the contract which binds them.

We will no longer see Djamel Belmadi on the Algerian bench. It is now a certainty. While there was a slight doubt whether he could stay in his post, this is no longer the case. He is going to empty his locker and on his own initiative at that.

According to the echoes emanating from the other side of the Mediterranean, Belmadi ended up accepting a termination of his contract. While he was linked to the FAF, he decided to leave his post in exchange for the payment of three monthly payments. After remaining in office for five and a half years, he leaves with a check for €600,000 in his pocket. It’s not what he was initially hoping for but it’s better than nothing.

Belmadi throws in the towel

Belmadi therefore says goodbye to the Fennecs. He missed the last three goals that were set, but he will still remain as the coach who put Algeria back in the spotlight. With him, the Greens went to seek their second continental crown in 2019 in Egypt.

Belmadi’s successor is not yet known. Many names have been circulated (Queiroz, Petkovic, Peseiro), but there has not yet been the slightest agreement reached. Walid Sadi, the boss of the FAF, clearly has difficulty convincing foreign technicians. The solution could be found at the local level. Madjid Bougherra, former coach of the A’ selection, has a lot of internal support.
