Almost a month after ejecting Djamel Belmadi from his position as coach, the Algerian Football Federation is reportedly on the verge of formalizing the arrival of his successor.
After Algeria’s new fiasco at CAN 2024 in Ivory Coast, Djamel Belmadi, who saw his team get knocked out in the group stage, was dismissed from his position. To replace him, several names have been mentioned, like that of Hervé Renard or Carlos Queiroz.
However, the president of the Algerian Federation Walid Sadi finally made José Peseiro, current coach of Nigeria and whose future is in doubt, his priority. But faced with the uncertainty of the file, the boss of the Fennecs has set his sights on Vladimir Petkovic, according to the newspaper’s information The Team.
A 2-year contract and a salary of 120,000 euros per month
According to the radio El Bahdja, Vladimir Petkovic would have been offered a two-year contract, with a salary of around 120,000 euros per month. Walid Sadi would have personally traveled to Switzerland to meet the former Nati coach and Bordeaux coach.
Vladimir Petkovic will aim to take Algeria at least to the quarter-finals of CAN 2024 and qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The official announcement of his induction could take place as early as this Wednesday, announces DZ Football.
