Algeria finally has its new coach, replacing Djamel Belmadi.

Almost a month after its premature exit from the CAN, Algeria would have found a new manager for its technical helm. The federation’s sights would have fallen on the Swiss Vladimir Petkovic.

According to the daily “Compétition”, an agreement was reached with the Swiss technician. The contract is for a period of two and a half years. And the salary offered to the person concerned is €120,000. Or half of what his predecessor Djamel Belmadi received.

Petkovic’s mission will be to qualify the Greens for the semi-finals of the next CAN as well as for the 2026 World Cup. A hell of a challenge, especially for a selection which remains on two eliminations in a row from the 1er round of the continental tournament.

In recent days, Petkovic was competing for this position. Previously, prestigious technicians like Zinedine Zidane and Carlos Queiroz were approached, but they kindly declined. The local solution, embodied by Madjid Bougherra, did not appeal to Walid Sadi, the president of the federation.
