Bayern Munich and Liverpool are no longer the only clubs eyeing Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso.
Xabi Alonso’s rating has just climbed a little further, following the prestigious success gleaned by his Leverkusen team against Bayern Munich last Saturday in the league (3-0). Liverpool and Bayern are no longer the only ones courting him.
The Reds are thinking of the Basque to succeed Jurgen Klopp, while the Bavarian giant would like a replacement for Thomas Tuchel. And, according to Sport, FC Barcelona would also be interested in the young Basque technician.
Xabi Alonso back in his country?
Like Klopp, Xavi will leave his post as Barça coach this summer, or even before if the Blaugrana’s results do not improve quickly. The club board sees Xabi as his potential successor.
Former Real Madrid midfielder Xabi is under contract with Bayer until the summer of 2026. Simon Rolfes, the German club’s sporting director, recently indicated that he was not worried about the idea to lose it.
Klopp (Liverpool), Imanol Alguacil (Real Sociedad), Michel (Girona), Thiago Motta (Bologna), Hansi Flick (without a club), Rúben Amorim (Sporting CP), Julian Nagelsmann (Germany), Thomas Tuchel (Bayern Munich) and Rafael Márquez (Barça B) have also been cited as candidates for the position of FC Barcelona coach.
