While Thiago Motta would not be a candidate, FC Barcelona, in the person of its sporting director Deco, would have targeted Portuguese coach Sergio Conceicao to succeed Xavi at the end of the season.
Sports director of FC Barcelona since last summer, Deco will make his first major decision in a few weeks. The former midfielder is looking for a successor to Xavi, who announced his departure from the Blaugranas bench at the end of the season. Rafael Marquez, FCB reserve coach, is ready, but his ambition does not plead his case with the Catalan leaders.
Deco could call on a compatriot in the person of Sergio Conceicao. The former coach of FC Nantes (2016-2017) is one of the potential candidates for the coaching position, as indicated Sport. At the head of FC Porto since 2017, he has been Portuguese champion three times and won the National Cup as many times. A credible lead as Thiago Motta would not be interested in this prestigious but difficult position…
Note that Sérgio Conceiçao never played in La Liga during his playing career, the right winger obviously having played for several Serie A clubs (Lazio, Parma, Inter Milan) before playing at Standard Liège or Paok.
