Hit in the thigh on Wednesday during Bayern Munich’s victory at Union Berlin (0-1), Dayot Upamecano must expect a long absence.

Bayern Munich has (a little) reassured. Three days after its home defeat against Werder Bremen (0-1), which allowed Bayer Leverkusen to escape at the top of the Bundesliga, the Bavarian giant in fact won over Union Berlin (0- 1) thanks to a goal from Raphaël Guerreiro. Enough to allow him to come back to four units behind the intractable leader, still undefeated.

Bayern Munich nonetheless experienced a turbulent evening. Consequence in particular of the incident which occurred at the start of the last quarter of an hour when Nenad Bjelica, the Berlin coach, was guilty of an ugly gesture towards Leroy Sané, pushing him violently in the face while the attacker German wanted to recover the ball. But the evening for Thomas Tüchel’s troops was also tarnished by the injury exit of Dayot Upamecano.

Hit in the thigh, the vice-world champion was forced out and the German coach was not very optimistic about him after the match. “It looks bad, he confided to journalists. It’s the classic: when you grab the back of your thigh during a sprint, you can imagine everything. It’s an injury to the fibers. This is of course extremely difficult for Upa and of course for us too. Torn fibers in the thigh…we’ll probably be talking about weeks of absence, not days.”

In the event of long unavailability, the French defender may have to give up on the Blues’ next two matches scheduled for the end of March, respectively against Germany, March 23 in Lyon (9 p.m.), then against Chile, March 26 (9 p.m. ) at the Vélodrome stadium. And this even though he has already played only one of the last five matches for the Blues since the start of the school year.
