Kylian Mbappé’s international star status no longer needs to be demonstrated. However, his name clearly remains complicated to spell for many.
Killian Mbappé, Kylian Mbapé or even Kylian Mbappee… the variations are legion regarding the spelling errors noted on the Web when mentioning the captain of the France team. According to a study conducted by Gambling Zone between December 2022 and November 2023, the name of the PSG spearhead was misspelled nearly 186 million times (185,910,000) on the Google search engine.
Beyond this altogether amusing observation, it says a lot about the popularity rating of the former Monegasque, who is well ahead of Robert Lewandowski (Lewandoski, Lewendowski…), Erling Haaland (Haarland, Holland…), Luka Modric (Modrich) and Harry Kane (Kaine, Cain…), which were the subject of 55.4 million, 39.6 million, 39.2 million and 37.3 million incorrect searches respectively.
Ronald and Missi far ahead
Kylian Mbappé is however beaten by the two behemoths that are Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. The Portuguese is at the top of this incongruous ranking with 732.4 million misspelled searches on Google last year. For Christian Ronaldo, Christiano Ronaldo, Cristano Ronaldo or Cristiano Ronald. The Argentinian for his part displays 526.3 million misses: Lionel Missi, Leonel Messi, Lional Messi, Lionel Messy for example.
