Bad news for the Blues. Sam Kerr, the Chelsea striker, star of the London club and the Australian selection, suffers from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in her knee and is expected to miss the rest of the league season.

The only player alongside Frenchwoman Wendie Renard to have always been nominated for the Ballon d’Or since the creation of the trophy for women in 2018, the 30-year-old was injured during the Blues training camp in Morocco.

Kerr has scored 57 goals in 73 appearances for Chelsea since signing in 2020 and is Australia’s all-time leading scorer with 69 goals in 129 appearances.

After 10 matches, Chelsea are top of the Women’s Super League in England, with 25 points from 10 matches. Sam Kerr has scored 4 goals and delivered 3 assists since the start of the season.
