Former Chelsea striker Timo Werner is set to return to the Premier League from RB Leipzig.
Werner has been heavily linked with a loan move to Manchester United, but according to Sky Sports Deutschland, the Germany international is set to join Tottenham on a six-month loan deal. At the same time, Man Utd are close to signing Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting, who has reportedly agreed to join the Old Trafford club from Bayern Munich on a temporary basis.
Werner close to move to Tottenham
Werner’s transfer to Tottenham is unexpected, and would even be “very hot”. Previously it looked like Man Utd would be his destination if he returned to England. Journalist Florian Plettenberg reports it on X: “RB Leipzig and Tottenham are in final negotiations today. More details to come »
Werner, 27, is reportedly set to leave his side’s training camp and is waiting for minor details surrounding the loan deal to be resolved. The purchase option is one of the points that still needs to be clarified. Tottenham have failed to recruit an equivalent replacement for Harry Kane, who was sold to Bayern Munich for €95 million this summer, and that is the role Werner will fill in Ange Postecoglou’s team. The RB Leipzig striker has struggled to get playing time this season. He only played eight times in the Bundesliga and scored just two goals. He suffered from injuries and a lack of form.
