Youcef Atal, the defender of OGC Nice, continues to post publications on his Instagram account.
He was hoping to be relaxed, but that wasn’t the case. Youcef Atal was found guilty of inciting hatred for sharing a video of an Islamic preacher who called for fighting Jews. Justice was not convinced by his arguments. She sentenced him to eight months in prison as well as a fine of 45,000 euros.
Atal and his advice do not give up
The Algerian international, who learned the news while in Togo where he is training with his selection, plans to appeal this decision. He and his lawyers, Mre Vey and Mre Michel, do not intend to stop there. Even if he might never return to France, the player wants to clear his reputation.
In the meantime, Atal remains active on social media. A week ago he posted a photo of himself with the following caption: “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” An expression that is easy to interpret given the context. The former Kortrijk player does not intend to let this affair get him down.
Called up for the CAN even though he has been out of competition for two months, Atal will therefore follow the course of events from afar. If his appeal is unsuccessful, however, he will have to accept his sentence. And on his Instagram account, he will also have to publish the verdict for six months. A move he would have done well without. Just like having to pay Nice-Matin and Le Monde for articles dealing with his conviction.
On a sporting level, Atal’s career could be relaunched after the continental tournament. The right-back would be in contact with the Turkish club Besiktas for a short-term contract.
