A former German world champion thinks a call-up for Toni Kroos for Euro 2024 would not be a good idea.

Sepp Maier, World Cup winner in 1974, believes that Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos should not be recalled to the Mannschaft.

“Kroos?” He has served his time with the Mannschaft”

Kroos has openly stated that he could come out of international retirement to take part in the Euros at home with his country. A possibility that many experts across the Rhine welcomed with joy, but there were also a few who pouted.

Sepp Maier, Germany’s emblematic goalkeeper in the 1970s, is against this return. In an interview with Sport1, he said: “I wouldn’t call Kroos back. I don’t think it’s a good thing that he’s playing for the national team again. It has had its day. We have a lot of other talented players in his role who can help the team.”

Kroos’ withdrawal coincided with the start of problems for the German team. However, Maier remains convinced that he no longer has anything to do with the Mannschaft. “It’s a popular topic in the media, but I wouldn’t call Kroos again. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t a great player and hasn’t done anything for German football.”
