AC Milan is worrying, at least defensively. With already 20 goals conceded in 17 Serie A days, the Rossoneri have the second worst defense in the top 10, just behind the disappointing reigning champion, Naples, and their 21 goals. However, nothing really new. Already last season, Stefano Pioli’s players finished the season in 4th place in the championship, but with 43 goals conceded.
A defensive reluctance which results in a fairly alarming statistic. As indicated by the data company, Opta, AC Milan has in fact conceded 64 goals, in the 2023 calendar year alone. A negative record for the Lombard club, which had never experienced this since the 1929/1930 season. It goes to show that having Mike Maignan, one of the best goalkeepers in the world, in your ranks is not always enough.
