FC Barcelona reportedly intends to recruit Claudio Echeverri, the child prodigy of River Plate, for 25 million euros.

According to journalist Pablo Giralt, the Catalan club will look to pay River Plate 25 million euros for the 17-year-old. The attacking midfielder, who has been linked to Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, started in his side’s 2-0 win over Rosario Central to win the Trofeo de Campeones on Friday night.

Echeverri, who turns 18 next month, is considered one of the great hopes of Argentine football. He himself has plans to one day join Barca and as a child he watched Lionel Messi play for the Spanish giants.

Earlier this month, FC Barcelona coach Xavi had some praise for Echeverri: “This boy (Echeverri) is a talent. Beyond the hat-trick he scored against Brazil (during the Under-17 World Cup), he makes the difference, but it’s up to the research department to take care of that.” The January transfer window opens in just over a week. It remains to be seen whether Barça will decide to recruit him at the start of 2024, given its delicate economic situation.
