Kylian Mbappé, the breakup that hurts

While he has long enjoyed an XXL love rating with the French, Kylian Mbappé is no longer their darling. And the advent of Antoine Dupont does not explain everything.

The scar born from the elimination of the French XV at the World Cup has not yet healed. Neither for the Blues, still bruised by the scenario of their defeat against South Africa, nor for the French supporters, who have still not digested the refereeing of Ben O’Keeffe, made guilty of Fabien Galthié’s troops . Antoine Dupont nonetheless won the hearts of the French. This is evidenced by the results of a survey carried out by Odexa which recognized the French captain as the favorite sportsman of the French.

Whether for sports fans or the general public, the Toulouse man has dethroned Kylian Mbappé. The news of the World Cup obviously helped, despite the failure of the French XV. But these results also sound like a terrible disavowal for the PSG striker. A year after the World Cup in Qatar and the incredible recital in the final, which captivated the hearts of the French, his popularity with the public is falling.

Several reasons can explain this (relative) disenchantment. The first symbol of PSG, Kylian Mbappé is inevitably taken aback by opposing supporters, especially since the repeated failures of the capital club do not help him achieve unanimous support. But his attitude is also regularly singled out. If his performances on the field are most often convincing, his behavior is sometimes considered haughty, the uncertainty he creates around his future, even if it means clashing with his club, or his bad character, as in the last minutes of the match against Dortmund, do not work in his favor. No more than his silence in the media.
