A new Edgar Davids move? This is the program for Joan Laporta and his teams for the next winter transfer window. Plagued by financial difficulties, the Catalan management continues, despite everything, to work hard to compensate for the long absence of Gavi, injured with Spain during the last international break. With this in mind and during an interview with EFE, the president of the Blaugranas revealed the club’s action plan for the next transfer market. The idea is simple: attract a midfielder in the form of a loan.

“If we manage to play fair, the idea is to have a midfielder who somehow compensates for Gavi’s absence. It would be a loan until the end of the season, like we did many years ago with Davids., explained the Spanish leader. Indeed, the Dutch midfielder had gone from a fringe player at Juventus Turin to a key player for Barça in the second half of the 2003-2004 season, Laporta’s first at the helm of the club. Without involving future operations, on which the club is already working, this new reinforcement would logically help Xavi’s gang, currently in the storm after several contrasting results.

The Giovani Lo Celso option considered

Third in Liga but already relegated to nine points behind leader Girona, Barça, opposed to Napoli for the round of 16 of the Champions League, must indeed react during the second part of the season. If the upper echelons of Barcelona have planned to make several sales and thus recover funds, the arrival of a new midfielder is therefore also being studied. With this in mind, a name seems to correspond to the criteria sought by the Catalan club, whether on a sporting or financial level.

Currently in the colors of Tottenham, Giovani Lo Celso, who passed through Paris Saint-Germain, is in fact desired by Xavi. Author of 2 small goals in 8 appearances with Spurs, the 27-year-old Argentinian could thus bring all his technique and his vision of the game to the Barcelona collective. A file which nevertheless promises to be relatively complex since the English leaders do not yet seem completely willing to let it slide, even in the form of a loan. One thing is certain, Barça – which today relies on Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Ilkay Gundogan, Fermin Lopez, Sergi Roberto and Oriol Romeu – is indeed looking for its new Edgar Davids…
