Impulsive, Argentinian goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is regularly singled out for his behavior with Aston Villa or the Argentine selection. Against Brentford this weekend during a 2-1 victory for the Villans, he stood out late in the match by grabbing Neal Maupay by the shirt to lift him off the ground when the latter claimed a foul. There followed a settlement between the two men which led in particular to the exclusion of Boubacar Kamara who got involved in this conflict.

As for the English press and Daily Mailthe Argentinian’s behavior exasperates, in particular the journalist Mike Keegan: “I don’t like Martínez at all and yesterday was a shame. A few minutes before, Emi flies into his area like the world is ending after contact then attacks a Brentford player for the same reason. Literally seconds ago you were doing the same thing…” His college Ian Ladyman added a layer: “I think he’s an idiot, if I’m honest. I’ll upset people if I say this, but I think about it. He’s a very good goalkeeper, but a bit stupid.” This is not going to improve Emiliano Martinez’s reputation…
