This is the new reform which is causing controversy in the world of football. Indeed, the 2025 Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States, will be played with 32 clubs including 12 European. While this will be an opportunity for several European champions to win a prestigious new competition in the future, it also means that more matches will be added to an already busy FIFA calendar.

Currently in Saudi Arabia with Manchester City to win the first Club World Cup in the history of the Skyblues, Bernardo Silva expressed his fears in an interview with Telegraphin relation to this new change which promises a grueling pace: “We play and we obviously win a lot of money and all that kind of stuff. But in my opinion – for people who love the game and are entertained by it – if we have that many matches, these games will lose energy, lose intensity. It’s just my opinion.» An opinion that many share.
