Fourth in Liga Adelante, Espanyol Barcelona has still not digested its relegation last season. And for good reason, the draw against Atlético de Madrid on the 36th day did not go through (3-3). That day, Antoine Griezmann scored a goal which should not have been validated according to the Catalan club, since the ball had not completely crossed the line. The referee, however, did not flinch. Unfortunately for the latter, an investigation subsequently showed that images proving that the French striker’s ball had not crossed the line were hidden from the central referee.

So, on Friday, Espanyol Barcelona published a press release in which the club requested compensation from the courts. “Today we know that what happened in this match (the concession of a goal to Atlético de Madrid who should never have scored) goes far beyond understandable human errors in the sports field. This decision and other situations, in our opinion still incomprehensible today, decisively influenced a relegation.”
