A big first in sight for English football.

Stéphanie Frappart is emulated in England. Rebecca Welch will in a few days become the first woman to manage a Premier League match. The 40-year-old referee has been appointed to officiate the match between Fulham and Burnley at Craven Cottage on December 23.

Ms. Welch has already refereed men’s football matches, having been the first woman to be appointed to referee a League Cup match in April 2021 and the first to take charge of a men’s FA Cup match in January 2022. She was fourth official in Manchester United’s win over Fulham in November.
