Wolverhampton: incredible freak out in training

Wolverhampton would have done without this incident to make people talk about it. 13th in the Premier League after 16 days, 10 points ahead of the red zone, the English club is experiencing a slightly quieter exercise than last year when it was a question of fighting for maintenance. Unfortunately for him, he is brought to light following an almost surreal event that occurred ten days ago in training and only revealed by The Athletic this Wednesday. This shows that the Wolves tried everything to cover up the affair.

This concerns Jonathan Otto, better known as Jonny. The Spanish defender is not the most famous player on his team, and for good reason. For three seasons and a serious knee injury, he has gradually disappeared from circulation. After playing 23 matches in all competitions last year, he has only appeared three times since August, oscillating between a place on the bench and in the stands. It is perhaps this downgrading within the club which triggered this excess of anger on December 2, before the defeat against Arsenal (2-1).

Elbowing, spitting and broken furniture

The 29-year-old literally lost his temper. According to the English media, he sent a violent elbow to Tawanda Chirewa, a young 21-year-old winger, who is starting to make the first team appearances. An altercation broke out between the two men, which a member of the staff immediately calmed down. Jonny then spits in the latter’s face as a response. Coach Gary O’Neil has no choice but to exclude the Spaniard from training, who cannot calm down.

On his way to the locker room, he hits everything that comes in his way, a table then a television screen which shatters. He ends up being sent home for fear that things will get worse. We shouldn’t see him again in the Wolves jersey anytime soon, if at all. “I spoke with him, he apologized and we considered the next step. We have agreed that at least until the end of January he will not be part of the first team.details Matt Hobbs at The Athletic.

Sent to U21

Since then, the former Atlético de Madrid has still returned to training with the U21s. “If he wants, he can play with them to maintain his level of playexplains the sports director. He’s a guy who has been a great servant to the club. One incident does not define the role he played during times of success and the man he is every day.” Still, Jonny’s journey is probably coming to an end at Wolverhampton, where he reaches the end of his contract in June. Already this summer, there was talk of a departure. There is no doubt that the subject will be discussed this winter.
