According to the latest information revealed by the newspaper L’Equipe, the former OM coach, Jorge Sampaoli, is approaching OL.
Without a club since his ouster from Flamengo at the end of last September, Jorge Sampaoli could return to service… in Lyon! According to information from the daily L’Equipe, the Argentinian technician was contacted in recent hours by David Friio, the new sporting director of Les Gones, with a view to taking over from Fabio Grosso, ousted at the start of the week and temporarily replaced by Pierre Sage.
Still according to the French sports media, Jorge Sampaoli would have started watching the matches of Alexandre Lacazette and his partners in order to measure the work that would await him on the banks of the Rhône if he ever agreed to disembark. The only thing that could push the former OM coach not to settle on the Lyon bench would be the very worrying last place in the club’s standings.
As a reminder, Jorge Sampaoli and David Friio know each other well having already collaborated on the Marseille side. In addition, the 63-year-old coach reportedly maintains an excellent relationship with Juninho, who has just been appointed advisor to John Textor. The Brazilian had also tried to offer himself the services of the Argentinian during his first visit to Lyon, but he finally opted for his compatriot Sylvinho.
