At the Parc des Princes, during the 5th day of Group F of the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain barely held off Newcastle on Tuesday evening (1-1). Trailing for a majority of the match, the Parisians needed a penalty in the last second of the match to save the furniture against the Magpies. An arbitration decision which is controversial in England since the regulations on this type of play vary between the Premier League and UEFA. Former arbitrator Mark Clattenburg also overturned the decision of his former colleague, Mr. Szymon Marciniak.
The English coach, Eddie Howe, had already criticized the referee’s decision on TV after the match: “What is not taken into account in replays is how quickly the ball goes. It hits the chest first. But even if he touches his hands first, there is no penalty because he is very close.. According to UEFA Football Board regulations, unintentional hands, even those that go in the direction of play, are always punished in European competitions. Unlike the Premier League which is more lenient on this subject.
