Accused of rape and held in pre-trial detention while awaiting his trial, Dani Alvès took out the checkbook “as compensation”. 150,000 euros paid to his victim, for a reduced sentence.
Dani Alves has been sleeping in prison for more than ten months now. Implicated by a young woman accusing him of having raped her in a club, during the evening of December 30, 2022, the former defender of FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain was placed in pre-trial detention on the 20 last January. Despite several requests for release pending his trial, the Brazilian did not obtain satisfaction. Having understood that he would not escape the trial, he decided to take out the checkbook to “ compensate » his alleged victim.
This is the information relayed Mundo Deportivo this Tuesday. While his third and final request for release was rejected on Monday by the Barcelona court, Dani Alves chose to pay the sum of 150,000 euros to his accuser. The footballer’s lawyer justified this action, in comments transcribed by the media: “ This would mean applying the mitigating circumstance of reparation for harm and could result in a sentence of less than two years in prison.“
The maximum sentence Dani Alves faces if found guilty is nine years in prison. The trial is expected to take place very soon.
