After Paris, Monaco, Lens, Marseille and Nice, some slightly less successful teams from the championships plunged back into their national games after the international break, this Sunday. The Niçois had opened the ball a little earlier in the day against Toulouse, and they were followed by some surprising teams since the curtain rose, such as Brest or Le Havre.
Brest surprises Montpellier
Traveling to Montpellier, the Brestois, eighth at kick-off, had the opportunity to distance themselves from OM, their first pursuer, in the event of success in Montpellier. And Eric Roy’s men accomplished their mission by signing a convincing victory on the Héraultais pitch (3-1). Despite a penalty from Savanier, the Finisterians secured plenty of points thanks to goals scored by Esteve (against his camp), Pereira Lage and Doumbia. With this victory, Brest climbs to 7th place in the ranking.
Le Havre provides the essentials
For its part, Le Havre, which had the same number of points as Brest, was away on the Nantes pitch, stuck in tenth place and on a downward slope before the break. The promoted Norman had every intention of making another move to push his opponent. But his plans were thwarted by the catastrophic entry of André Ayew. Returning to Ligue 1 after eight years of absence, the Ghanaian contracted a red card two minutes after his incorporation. With a man less, the HAC could not do better than a draw (0-0).
FC Metz on its way
Finally, a bottom-of-the-table match pitted Lorient against Metz. The Merlus had to win to get back in front of the promoted Lorraine in the standings. But once again, the formation of Régis Le Bris disappointed and was easily overwhelmed by Garnets (2-3). Lorient had nevertheless led the score after going from 0-1 to 2-1. Faivre and Kroupi scored for the locals, before the visitors turned things around on their return. Sabaly, Traoré and Jallow were the three scorers for the visitors. By winning this Sunday, Metz moves up to 1st in the table to position itself (9th).
