Victim of a serious injury for the last match of her career, Megan Rapinoe made a little comment which caused controversy in the United States.
It didn’t end the way she hoped. For the very last match of her career, the final of the United States Championship lost by her team OL Reign against NJ/NY Gotham (2-1), Megan Rapinoe suffered an injury at the very beginning meeting, which forced her to leave the field, for the very last time, on a stretcher.
“I felt a ‘pop’, then I couldn’t feel my Achilles tendon, I think it ruptured, it’s really the worst thing imaginable. It’s horrible. Leaving a final so early, I don’t deserve that, frankly. But hey, that’s life, it’s part of the game, I felt good before the match,” she commented after the meeting.

On social networks, many Internet users rejoiced at the injury of the American international, a divisive character, due to her multiple positions on social issues. And Rapinoe didn’t help her situation with this little comment, about her injury. “I’m not a religious person or anything, but if there has to be a God, this is proof that he doesn’t exist”she confided.
This sentence was said as a joke, but the subject of religion is taken very seriously in the United States. Attacking religion in this way has earned Rapinoe many other criticisms…
