Since last March, and his appearance against Niger, Andy Delort has not played for the Algerian national team. We thought that his international career was over, especially since he does not have much support on the other side of the Mediterranean, but that is not the case.

Belmadi does not close the door to Delort

Djamel Belmadi, the Fennecs coach, is ready to give him another chance in the future. This is what he suggested at a press conference on Sunday. “Delort? As with the others, you have to see who he is competing with. Afterwards, it’s your taste. I have Gouiri too, and I won’t take three strikers, that’s for sure.”

Delort, who is playing this season in Umm Salal in Qatar, has never been able to do well with the Greens. In 15 caps, he has only scored 2 goals and the last one dates back three years ago (November 2020).

For the upcoming matches, in the World Cup qualifiers, Belmadi has chosen to recall Baghdad Bounedjah as center forward. The hero of the victorious CAN 2019 final is not sure of playing in the next CAN. “We had carried out a large staff review until now. (…) Bounedjah is in a position where I believe there are still things to do. The closer we get to the competition, the more we move towards the group that will play it, but there is still time.”
