It’s quite an anniversary that PSG is celebrating this Friday: the 50th anniversary of its very first match at the Parc des Princes.
It was November 10. That of the year 1973. That day, for the first time in its short history, PSG played at the Parc des Princes. A match played against Red Star as part of the 13e day of group B of Division 2 – a real poster won by the Parisians ahead of the Audoniens (3-1) for two clubs which will end up promoted that season.
So that was 50 years ago to the day. A special day was remembered by the late Just Fontaine, then PSG coach shortly before his death on February 28: “ The Park discovered a new team, with a designer president (Daniel Hechter, who would not officially be president until June 1974, editor’s note) and not so many means. I explained to the players before the match that they had an important card to play, it was a change from Camp des Loges and the 3,000 spectators present. It was a unique opportunity to be recognized by the general public. »

At the time, the new Parisian club would play in front of “ more than 30,000 people », remembers the former Franco-Togolese winger Othniel Dossevi, first scorer for PSG in the Porte de Saint-Cloud enclosure. Spectators more committed to the cause of Paris FC, which then operates in the elite. And times have changed a lot since then. PSG has played 1,178 official matches at the Parc des Princes, reports Le Parisien, including 129 European Cup matches. All for a winning percentage of 63.5%.
